About Us
ZapTXT is a free service that lets you keep track of Web sites in real time. You can use it to do all kinds of things - find a job, get an apartment, track your favorite blogs, or sports teams (see examples) - via email, instant messenger, or mobile device. Technically, this involves RSS and OPML, if you care about such things.
Why should you care?
Because ZapTXT is just plain useful. If you're like most Web users, you probably keep up with a handful of Web sites. There are just too many sites out there, and not enough time. ZapTXT can do it for you. Just tell us what you're interested in, which Web sites you'd like to follow, and we'll do the rest. You can get on with your life.
What's a ZapTask?
OK, we know, it sounds a little cute, but we had to call it something. A ZapTask is, essentially, what you create with ZapTXT. It's the combination of keyword(s) and Web sites that triggers messages to your email, IM address or mobile device. Here are a few examples:
* For Users
News: Create ZapTasks around specific topics for a set of blogs or news sites. We'll monitor your chosen sites and notify you as soon as something that interests you shows up. Or monitor the entire blogsphere for key words by using RSS feeds from cool search engines such as Sphere or Google Blog Search.
Interested in monitoring what users say about a particular post on a blog. Simply create a ZapTask for the comments section (note: the blog must support RSS for Comments) and you'll receive an alert with the headline, everytime someone comments on the blog. It's a pretty neat alternative to manually monitoring comments.
Classifieds: Let the deal come to you. Define search terms for gigs, items for sale, apartments or events on RSS enabled classified sites such as Craigslist, Simply Hired or eBay, and ZapTXT will alert you when we find a match.
Research: Need to monitor a company, a competitor or just a topic of interest? ZapTXT takes care of time consuming research, allowing you to get on with your life.
New Releases: Be the first to know when a new song shows up on iTunes or a video on YouTube or when your favorite book hits news stands. ZapTXT will monitor your favorite publisher sites for your chosen topics and bring the information right to your in box, as an instant message or SMS.
* For Publishers:
Whether you write a blog, a column in a magazine or you're a teacher trying to get homework notifications out to students - add the handy ZapTXT widget to your website to notify readers about topics that match their interest. Just make sure that your feed is RSS 2.0.
